Camp doesn't have an official fishing department. It also does not have an official whitewater kayaking department. But, kids learn to fish and they get basic flatwater kayaking instruction. Depending on the summer's schedule and the specific skill of the counselors, extra trips are run to rivers for either fishing or kayaking.

I, as a whitewater kayakers, often found myself in conversation with Kevin Bonasera, avid fisherman. We spoke about things beyond the joy we each experience in our favorite activities. We spoke of the movement of river water. We spoke of the nature of the environment surrounding the water and how we (humans) affect it for better and for worse. Summers at Kawanhee are the primary reason so many of us discovered our love of the outdoors.

Summer after summer we were provided opportunities that are too numerous to list in the catalogue or official website.
Summer after summer we had talented, motivated counselors who spent countless hours of their free time teaching campers new skils. And later, as counselors ourselves we were easily motivated to share our knowledge with eager campers.

Kevin has recently moved to Belize to work with Turneffe Flats as a trip leader and manager.
